There are a few ideas you can try
choose the top variety - there are many available.
grow them in the best environment - some such as oyster muchrooms like cool humid areas and can be placed outdoors
(I discovered these and the reasons they work on gregs mushroom grower site ) -
! How long before the mycelium spread through the container with the cardboard? How long does it take to spread through the coffee grounds?
-
how would this work for magic mushrooms
-
Dont you use rubbing alcohol all over your hands before touching anything?
-
i recommend doing the transplanting/starting the grow underneath a stove fan so particles in the air gets sucked away from what your doing farther minimizing the risk of contamination
-
So could you put the bits of cut up oyster directly in the coffee grounds and eliminate the cardboard step?
-
Watch my video "1.Growing oyster mushrooms at home cheap and easy "
-
how do you get the mycelium spawn to begin with???
-
It's been so long ago now since I video's it and I have done so many runs I cannot be sure.
-
I wonder if not using sterile gloves caused the contamination? Perhaps we carry fungus spores on our skin?
-
Oysters grow on many plant components, seed husks of various types, hardwood logs and sawdust, pretty much anything that has cellulose fiber in it, even paper and cardboard. Learning the correct method for optimizing water content of the media is 0one of the more critical skills you will develop as you grow mushrooms.
-
You can use a pressure cooker (90 minutes at 15 psi). You can treat the media with Hydrogen Peroxide, but then you have to press the excess moisture out of it, and that is not truly sterilizing.
-
Can I grow oyster mushroom on materials that differ from weath straw and coffee grounds? Or at least can I at least partially replace the mentioned two of media with ,for example, oakwood sawdust?
-
can you sterilize the coffee grounds without having to use a microwave?
-
I look forward to hearing about it.
-
I used commercial spawn. Not cardboard as you did. I'm going to give it a go using cardboard. Hopefully get some good results
-
Did you start your mycelium by running it on cardboard or did you use commercial spawn on grain?
-
After watching your videos I started my own batch of oyster mushrooms on coffee grounds. I did not sterilize any of my equipment and I have my first flush of oyster mushrooms coming up now. Do not be discouraged by mould. I had two bags of coffee inoculated with spawn, one was a black bag, the other a clear (translucent) bag. Both bags were overrun with mould, I put them in a warmer place and the mycelium took over. The translucent bag is doing much better than the black (opaque) one.

It's been so long since I recorded it I cannot be sure if your observation is correct or not. One of these days I will try again and record the results. I will bear your observation in mind then, being careful to properly sterilize everything involved.

I noticed after you sterilized everything you did not sterilize the fork you used. SO non the coffe grounds have been contaminated.
