There are many things that can get you high. Cultures for thousands of years have used natural psychedelics for various different rituals, usually involving enlightenment to find their path in life. While in recent times, getting high is more about having a good time than a spiritual journey the facts of the matter is, people for centuries have enjoyed altering their reality. In this list we'll be showing you 5 foods that can get you high We would like to give a big shoutout to viewer Kaden Hernandez for suggesting this video. --------------------SECOND CHANNEL------------------- Check out my second channel More5! for funny, weird, interesting news, along with the latest trending topics within the YouTube community. Remember the episode of the Simpsons when Homer eats a pepper and trips out? It had some truth to it. While there isn't a lot of scientific research to why peppers can get you high but there are some common theories. First the endorphin rush from the pain caused by the hotness can make you a bit fuzzy to say the least. Also peppers are part of the same botanical family as potatoes, tobacco and the deadly nightshades. Nightshade plants make you hallucinate but then die. Capsaicin might be the best-known chemical in hot peppers, but odds are some other potent molecules are in the mix as well. 4) Stilton Cheese There is a saying that if you eat strong cheese before bed you can have some pretty vivid and nightmarish dreams. That kind of is true. In 2005, a British Cheese Board study revealed that ingesting 20 grams of Stilton cheese could lead to wacky, nonsensical visions in dreams. For example a participant said they saw vegetarian crocodiles. The reason for cheese dreams are not well known. Some say its to do with the amino acid tryptophan which relaxes the body & mind, however there are many foods such as eggs and soy that contain more of the same amino acid and don't give you the same crazy dreams. However this could be attributed to the time it takes for your body to digest different foods. 3) Poppy Seeds They are the seeds from the opium poppy, the flower responsible for much of the worlds drug trade. Therefore poppy seeds do contain minute amounts of morphine and codeine. In fact as the MythBusters determined, eating bread or bagels that contain poppy seeds can actually make you fail a drugs test. The thing is though, in order to actually get high from eating poppy seeds, you'd really have to eat a ridiculous amount, so while its possible its not realistic. 2) Rye Bread When Rye bread is moldy that's when it can get you high. If its not moldy its just like any other bread. The reason mold is essential is because a common grain of fungi called ergot, contains a chemical called ergotamine which is used to make lysergic acid. And Lysergic acid is a chemical found in LSD. While eating moldy bread to get high is sounds ridiculous, it can actually deliver a pretty powerful trip. 1) Nutmeg Nutmeg is found in most kitchens to sprinkle on various dishes to give it a finishing touch. However consuming between 5-15 grams of nutmeg can be enough to get you high. Effects greatly depend on the amount consumed, you can experience effects similar to alcohol, to full blown hallucinations. However don't think only because its in your kitchen its safe to take. Nutmeg takes a good 6 hours to kick in, which can easily lead people to overdose. Overdosing on nutmeg is extremely dangerous, and can result in death. However the most common side effects if you don't overdose, is dizziness, nausea, paranoia, headaches and just generally feeling terrible.
