Africa holds about two thirds of the world's arable land but has more often than not been on the receiving end as far as food aid. Predictably, participants at Africa's Agricultural Transformation summit in Dakar, Senegal point to poor investment in the sector and extended dependence on subsistence farming. They want governments to prioritize the sector, renew private-sector engagement and engage in innovative agriculture financing mechanisms. Organizers are promising to yield some of the boldest initiatives ever taken on Africa's development.
