vue - An Experiment: Growing Mushrooms - Collect Spores with Mushroom Spore Prints 1 of 6 TRG 2015
I have never grown mushrooms before. This is an experiment I invite you to join. I want this to be an active group learning experience. One of the first step to growing mushrooms is harvesting spores. We start with the White Button mushroom and the Baby Bella mushrooms. I will show you my learning curve through all the steps of grow mushrooms indoors. Check out my vegetable gardening blog: The Rusted Garden. It is filled with garden information, videos, pictures, seed catalogs and seeds & things I sell. www.therustedgarden.blogspot.com Join My Google+ Gardening Community called Our Tomato & Vegetable Gardens - we are approaching 5000 world-wide gardeners: https://plus.google.com/communities/114956817444053979636 or Link from My YouTube Page.

Can compost tea help the mushroom or any mushroom.

anybody know what grains you can innoculate with Portobello spores? I'd like to grow my own, but the temps here in Florida are too hot to fruit and Id have to grow indoors, and as you could guess I'd prefer not to bring large amounts of manure into my house. I could also add broken down straw to whatever grains would be suitable.

Any problem with spores contamination? I think aluminum foil is better, you can quickly immerse it in boiling water to kill bacteria before collecting spores, then use steriluzed syringes with Mineral water to collect your spores.

here's several ideas worth trying
pick the top variety - there are lots available.
grow them in the right environment - some such as oyster muchrooms like cool humid conditions and can be placed outdoors
(I discovered these and the reasons they work on gregs mushroom grower website ) -
Those mushrooms have carcinogens and cause cancer all through your body.. Just a little food for thought if anyone is thinking about growing them and eating them.. Good luck out there and checkout Paul Stamets.. He is the best in the field

This is a great video! Thanks!
One question though: Can I grow mushrooms without getting the spore sprints? What if I just scrape the gills off into my substrate ? Will that work the same (minus germination time)? -
hey wondering if the manure you use is composted? i have chickens and have a tumbler compost bin i mix in waste and kitchen scraps. wonder if i can substitute for the cow manure.

I use a napkin or paper towel when I do this. other ways could be letting them open for 48hrs over sterile water, then pouring over your medium. or perhaps letting them open directly on your medium. try outdoors in on a log or wood chips under a cool shady moist spot. play around with it. learn to propagate your own.

Hey. I plan to start some mushrooms at home. I bought some from the supermarket and there is fluffy stuff on the stems. I figured this may give me an advantage in growing on my own since i think it is mycelium. Is it ok to use the fluffy stems as well as the spores to start my own shrooms?

1. Exposing the spores-YES. Not necessary with all species. 2. You SHOULD sanitize hands or wear gloves. If you intend to use these spores to cultivate you DO NOT want them contaminated 3. 6 hrs is NOT long enough to get a good spore deposit. The specimen should be covered. 4. DO NOT use paper for a spore deposit; card stock is okay, but foil is BEST simply because paper is manufacture with chemicals that can affect the viability of your spores. 5 In the case your buttons place on the foil and then slip into a paper (not plastic) bag-why? Humidity will build up. You want the spores to dry and DO NOT want excess water all over them.

Different mushrooms grow differently, but im sure that spore sprits come off all mushrooms, i really want portabello, and this will be useful, and if mycelium starts growing on it, ill be happy to extract it off
