Antelopes have been eating away at their wheat crop for years... affecting the livelihood of the people working the land. Indian farmers are suffering huge losses as mature crops of wheat are damaged by herds of Asian antelopes. It's happening in the Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh state. Farmers have put up barricades around fields and are on a strict vigil around the clock to protect their livelihood. [Ram Yadav, Farmer]: "Antelopes are damaging the mature wheat crops in our fields. They come in herds of 10-20, 100-150, or even 2-4. They keep coming into our fields and destroying the crops. They pass by and run between the wheat fields." Farmers in the region have not been able to cultivate pulses for the last 20 years... all because of the antelopes. Farmers say that although they have been suffering heavy losses, the state government has not taken any steps so far to help them remedy the situation.
