vue - Autumn Dragon Fruit
The flowering of the dragon fruit is a sure way to tell Autumn is in the air. Bill discusses some new types he is growing and different ways the plant might be trained. Of course, he has to taste the fruit.

Hi , Bill, I'm very impressed with the forest layers you came up with in your permaculture design. I like dragon fruit, but so far here in Europe, I have found only the bland types on the market. They have vivid colors, but I don't think it is doing the reputation of this fruit much good. The best one you can find here is a small yellow one, and nobody buys it, because it is the least spectacular looking, but it is the only one that tastes good.
You prepared this garden while you were living in California, and I have a small plot in Portugal, which I am trying to get going in a permaculture way as well. I was wondering if you could do a video on how to 'install' a garden from scratch when you buy a sort of wild or overgrown patch, and one on working with weedblock or plastic textiles. I've heard very different comments about this here and I would love to hear your experience and expertise on that. Always enjoy your videos! -
Hi Bill, I watched the Dragon fruit video and I believe our neighbors are growing it here in Fremont!! I'm not sure though would love to send you a picture. I thought it was Christmas Cactus the family has several posts with a top and sprinkler on post Square.. a cactus of somesort is growing up the posts.. no flowers yet.. here.. would be amazing if we can grow it here. BTW our Cox pippen orange apple is doing great, upon your recommendation.

Nice im seeing a future of Bill tasting and comparing some different kinds of dragonfruit perhaps? :)

You mentioned in the video that the yellow and red varieties are common in stores and are not that sweet, but you also said that the yellow is your favorite and it is sweet. Are there two different kinds of yellow that you are talking about? Can those dragon fruit plants survive outdoors in zone 8? Do you plan on selling any of those plants to the continental U.S.? I tried a dragon fruit from ChinaTown in NY when I visited there back in August. It definitely had a very mild pear like taste.

I love waking up on the weekend, getting some coffee and watching your videos. Another great one leaving me longing for yellow dragon fruit.

i love your videos, seeing so many different plants in one area is great. i live in minnesota so we only have 4 to 5 months for growing season. then we are so lucky to get snow and 20 below zero temps

Great video Bill. My dragon fruit plants are doing good. Thanks again for the seeds. Here in Alabama, the night temps are dropping into the 50s with day temps still in the high 80s. When should I bring the dragons inside for the night? Also my pineapple plants?

Great info, Bill, thanks. Looking up some links it appears I may be able to grow this in my area with a greenhouse. Very interested. Not just for the fruit but wondering if a decent Schnapps could be distilled from it. Not a big drinker myself but Schnapps is a big thing where I now live and wondering if it could be a viable income source for a specialty schnapps. I also belong to an organization of individuals allowed to legally distill schnapps and brandy. The science of distilling fascinates me though I don't drink much.

I am wondering if they would grow in zone 8b. Best wishes Bob.

I have never had a yellow dragon

Hey Bill, When you managed the garden center in Fremont, what were the 3-5 most common trees people would purchase?
