vue - Balance of Power
A theory of state behavior explaining how states respond when faced with the growing power of another state. The concept is also used to describe certain historical periods in relations between great powers (i.e., the pre-WWI Balance of Power in Europe).

Great videos! Thanks. A few questions: How do states measure power? Their own and other states? Is it a quantitative or qualitative thing? Is there a maximum to sum of all powers? Wouldn't a third option to balance the power is to reduce the other states' power? For example: sabotaging, or slandering, etc? About alliances... Since a state cannot reasonably enforce such agreements in another state, how is the trust established? What happens if one state decides to break the alliance in a very critical moment? Power may look like balanced during the time the alliance is honoured. But in reality, it may give false confidence to parties (Byzantine Generals e.g.)

Also it is also widely argued that there is a balance of power against China.
How can the west ignore US and rather against China and form aliances with US?
Please explain this futher with theory if it is possible.

Now think about this in the context of the US placing it's anti ballistic missile systems in Romania, hence forcing Russia to strengthen it's nuclear capabilities or US pushing Ukraine to align with NATO and the EU. Russia's occupation of Crimea is only logical, even though it might be against international law. Who would you say is to blame in these situations?
