Better Soil - how legumes and organic carbon improve soil quality Hearing from the technical specialists and producers involved, this video looks at how fixing soil nutrition, soil fertility and soil carbon boots returns. www.condaminealliance.com.au This video looks at the soil fertility outcomes of the Condamine Alliance Action on the Ground project which has been trialling on farm practices to increase sequestration of carbon in the soil by enhancing biomass and/or productivity through the incorporation of perennial pastures in farming systems. Funded by the Australian Government, nine local trial sites were established in Chinchilla, Jandowae, Bell and Clifton districts. The trials explored a variety of soil types and land management practices on degraded cropping and grazing land. Concluding in 2015, Condamine Alliance was joined in the three year project by industry specialists in agronomy, land management, pasture management, climate science and local Landcare groups. Extremely dry conditions provided challenges for the project. However, interesting results were achieved with nutrient management and the sowing of grasses and legumes, including increased pasture growth and cattle liveweight gain.
