Love this idea! Would it also work with sawdust spawn and blewit soil?
-
Awesome idea!

thanks a lot friend! Thanks for the info...I will spread the knowledge so we can spread the mushroom!

As long as you want to, a week is good. But you don't even need to freeze it, you can just leave it in the fridge it'll be fine.
-
Yes, they are winter fruiters, they need cold weather to fruit.
-
Seems like the Blewit season here only lasts for so long....maybe seed an area now and wait until next year to get the fruit?
-
I made 4 of those Frozen Blewit bombs 2 days ago that are nestled in my freezer right now. How long should I leave them in the freezer?
-
Ya they grow all over here! They are my fav. besides the Chanty! So good!

No never too late to make a blewit bed. Any time of the year is fine. Do you have blewits growing naturally in California?
-
They are not mycorrhizal. So you can put them in your garden around the veggies.
-
As of today Dec 31st....it is too late to try this now ya? Should I keep them in my freezer for next year? Start it around mid October....I'm in California. Thanks.
-
Are the Blewits mycorrhizal? Is there a tree association to it? Do I have to put the blewit bombs around a black oak, white oak? If so.. it wont grow in or around my veggies if I use that compost ya? Thanks a lot!

I see this was posted three years ago, did you ever post an update video to this video to show the mushroom growth? I would love to see it if you did.. thanks Ed
-
When they fruit next time, we will make a video for you. It is the time for blewits right now.
-
Yes, the mycelium will travel through the compost and then take root in the ground, and mushrooms will fruit all around the compost pile. And if you add some woodchips in there, it is even better. The woodchips will act as a carrier, then you can put that in your garden.

So does the Compost Tower become infested with the Blewit Mushroom? Or when I spread the compost in the yard? Can I use the compost with the mycelium in it in my garden? I mean ...it is compost after all. That is usually my compost intentions. Thank You

I performed a similar experiment a couple years ago using a stem-butt slurry combined with cardboard spawn. It proved to be a success and I'm really looking forward to the next fruiting. I find the idea of freezing the slurry quite intriguing and plan to give the method a shot... anything to cut down on the need for sterile work is a bonus for encouraging more people to dabble in mushroom cultivation! Using compost as the fungal vector is great! Excellent experiment!

We did not take a video last year, the mushrooms fruited about 5 feet from the compost pile in the leaf litter...
-
yeah, and it really works, this past fall we found a blewit patch 4 feet from the compost pile. I was actually suspicious of this when Tradd did it, and didn't think it would work, especially since it was completely frozen. now i am convinced.
