vue - Celebrating Diversity in Agriculture | Greg Peterson | TEDxMHK
As an advocate for agriculture, Mr. Peterson strives to bring more awareness to the details and diversity of the industry. Greg Peterson is a 2013 graduate of Kansas State University where he majored in Agricultural Communications and Journalism. He grew up and still works on a family farm near Assaria, KS with his parents, 2 brothers, and sister. He has always enjoyed working on the farm and being an advocate for agriculture. In June of 2012, Greg and his brothers released a video on YouTube entitled, "I'm Farming and I Grow It." It quickly went viral, receiving over 9 million views. Since then Greg and his brothers have released many more parody videos and are now up to 37 million total views on YouTube. The videos have given Greg and his brothers many opportunities around the country and the world to talk about agriculture and he is passionate about the future of the industry. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

I love this!! Everyone should watch, so spot on. Support farmers 100% and celebrate each other while getting better! I grew up and now work in agriculture in Hawaii, studied it in Wisconson and Trinidad and Tobago, and see so much uninformed negativity online and in this country (and state esp.) My views are always changing, but more and more I suspect that everything you say here is so true

Excellent lecture. Very well said Mr. Peterson. I am a retired farmer and it's exciting to see what technology has done to help us produce the best food at the cheapest price in the world. As a nation, we are indeed very fortunate. I really enjoyed listening to your presentation. Thank You.

Some people seem to believe that 95% of the people involved with the HSUS eat meat. I question the validity of this, but it really does not matter, because there is no question that the policy makers in the HSUS are either vegan or vegetarian. This is especially true of Wayne Purcell and Paul Shapiro, the most prominent spokesman for the HSUS. Both of them are avowed vegans.
A vegan does not believe in eating meat or using animal products. So they don't wear leather, fur products and think ice cream will kill you. These are the hard core animal rights fanatics. They may try to appear reasonable, but the HSUS has adopted the Mao philosophy of 3 steeps forward and 1 back. Right now they are backing off.
The question is, can a meat producer deal with them. The answer is no. Just look at the biggest promotion of the HSUS, meatless Monday. This is being headed by Paul Shapiro. He promotes meatless Monday by saying meat will kill you and the environment. So, a meat producer should have a hard time working with people who say they are trying to poison their customers.
One of Purcell's latest books promotes fake meat. He talks about how plant protein can be chemically modified to take the place of meat. It seems inconceivable that a meat producer will ever be able to compromise with an organization that wants to shut him down.
If the HSUS is really intent on working with farmers, the first thing it should do is get rid of Purcell and Shapiro. These men destroy any creditability the HSUS has with meat producers. Then the HSUS should disavow meatless Monday. If the HSUS does not, then it truly is, just a vegan cult, that wants to shut down animal production in the US. -
Good job Greg, excellent lecture. People need to hear the information you provided.

"Peoples got to remember to thank a farmer for fuelling the world" ... Right but they got to realize that the urban society is not possible without a powerfull agriculture business ! In the past when producing food needed 80% of the population, and this is not so far. This was real 70 years ago ! Each of us could not get a revenu from building cars, no computer industries was available, But was not possible to ! Each of us could not even go to school !
This is what agriculture allowed, the modern society we got, that's why we must have to thank a farmer everyday !
And I invite everybody who complain about my "way of farming", to produce ALL the food he needs by himself..... -
Well said Greg!

Hey everyone! Thank you for watching my TEDx talk! The slide I am talking about when referring to different technologies used in agriculture did not make it into the video for some reason. It reads as follows: Technology in Agriculture: 1. GMOs 2. Pesticides 3. No-Till/Cover Crops 4. Precision Farming 5. Intensive Farming (Factory Farming) 6. Organic Farming, Urban Farming, Vertical Farming -- Please read my blog post over this TED talk for a more detailed explanation of this slide! https://petersonfarmblog.wordpress.com/2016/04/21/conventional-and-organic-farming-celebrating-the-diversity-in-agriculture/
