This work chronicles changes we witnessed in one year on the coral reefs of Bali Barat National Park, NW Bali (2015- 2016), most notably the sacred island of Menjangan, a top-rated dive spot in Indonesia. A freak July storm followed by a crown-of-thorns starfish outbreak, continued blast fishing, anchor and diver damage, and most notably severe bleaching and death of hard and soft corals caused by extremely high seawater temperatures combined to cause the greatest annual change we have witnessed in over 40 years of coral reef research (http://biospherefoundation.org/project/coral-reef-change/). We present this video as a wake-up call to all people interested in the perpetuation of coral reefs and life on earth as we presently know it. Climate change is real and wreaking terrible damage to ecosystems we once thought would stand forever. Large areas of reef are gone, others forever changed. But, there are signs of resilience that give us hope that parts of the reef will survive. With concerted care and thoughtful actions we may be able to reduce the terrible forces of climate change that are looming just over the horizon.
