-
economic reforms of cuba r capitalist-oriented and r absolutely against what Che and co wanted, the only reason why the former marxist economy didnt accomplished was the severe blockade of the US, CAN THE US SURVIVE ONE YEAR WITH ECONOMIC EMBARGO IMPOSED ON IT??NAAA. NOT A SINGLE DAY

Cuba is on the rise to their new era of being an even greater nation--I pray that they will attain their rightful place in this fast dying world before the (LOL), the great ones destroy the entire planet with their level of greed and hatred!

Great reporting on Cuba. Originally from Chicago, I had many Cuban friends. I got to know their families. They are wonderful people. Intelligent, educated and of the highest integrity. I was mostly attracted to their values & integrity. Unfortunately, America's corruption is what I fear most. I believe President Obama has been pushed by the corporate thieves to open ties with Cuba again.
I am concerned that the U.S. only has interest in oil found off the coast of Cuba. I am an American. Yet, I would never trust the U.S. because it is controlled by greed. It is how this nation was founded. The U.S. is in no position to criticize other nations about its Human Rights. We spy on our own, protect our former president and vice president as they are international criminals. We also use Guantanamo Bay as a place of torture & various Human Rights abuses. Our corporations sell us foods and other products that kill us and the corporations just pay money, rather than sending the corporate leaders to prison. There are more vacant homes than there are are homeless people. Election fraud & Treason just to become president seems to be a way of life here. Corruption in the U.S. government is rampant. Billionaires can buy our government leaders...they already have.
My point is, the United States is not qualified to make moral judgements on any other country. Neither are its people, after murdering native Indians, slavery and the racism that exists to this day, with no end in sight. And, yes, Cuba could probably learn alot from other nations such as Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands...just approach the U.S. very cautiously! Look at Puerto Rico as an example. They are forced to be poor, living in ghettos, denied decent employment, then called LAZY for receiving for getting welfare! -
Someone should start 'Cuban anti-capitalist tours'. Help the economy as well as teach people of an ecologically, egalitarian way of creating an economy.
-
This is bullshit. Cuban is ran100% by the communist castro brothers. People are starving. Stop lying assholes..
the rationing book is not even enough for a week, meat is illegal and Castro runs the lives of all cubans. Cuba is worse than prison. -
RT is propaganda for those English speakers who have neither the brains nor self-respect... I am sorry for them...
-
Cuba socialist? I think it is much more to the communist side that the socialist... either way, Cuba is poor because of the embargo, not their system. In fact it is amazing they have managed to survive in isolation for so long. How many countries could survive self-sustained without decaying into chaos, violence and hunger? What could Cuba accomplish if the embargo was gone? Heck, it is the only country I know who has a radio station in Esperanto.

You know Abby does have an interesting outlook on this and while yes Communism and socialism have obviously gotten demonized by Americans in the last 100 years or so.
But have any of you actually read the communist manifesto. The true meaning of communism is the true vision of two very crazy lunatic German guys that did not value the opinions of those that opposed the idea of communism. There is even mention of the revolutionary holocaust. Depends on which translation you read. There are some English translations that water this down but regardless see the last section on "opposition". Sorry Abby Martin but communism is not good either. How about the 7 million Polish people (western Ukrainians or whatever you want to call them) in the winter of 1932-33 that were starved to death by the Russians. Or go check the statistics on the casualties during WW2. Where were most of the deaths? No it was not victims of the Nazis like most of you believe. It was victims of the Russian Red Army. People who were not communist. White Russia, Poland, etc. Look it up America, don't take my word for it. I am not wrong. You are just sleeping blue pill zombies because you refuse to believe anything that doesn't mesh with American education and the corporate controlled media.
Anyway this was a three part series talking about how much better communism is than what the corporate media would have us believe. Communism has claimed comparable lives as the western world has in the last 100 years. I don't want to hear anything good about either side here as long as both sides supports killing human beings to further their own selfish agenda. That is all any of us need to know.
Also in case you people were thiking that your man Bernie Sanders is a great man and independant. Go look up a few things and get your facts straight. Go look into the fiasco in 1964 he caused. He is very very very extreme left wing. Not only is he left wing he is actually a communist and he was a communist collaborator during the cold war. Who knows how many people were killed during the cold war because of his deeds. I am not saying the west is any better but get your facts straight about communism before you start defending something.
BTW thank you very much America, I had to check out of America when I saw how badly you all allowed my country to get. Thank you blue pill morons for destroying my country now I have to live in ridiculous countries because I cannot stand to even look at any of you idiots for what you did to my country. You did it. Americans are to blame all of you. Do not blame the politicians they are just the few at the top that vote in their ridiculous salaries to screw all of us over. Why did you allow this to happen? Why? WHy? How dare you America! None of you have any credibility for responding to anything when it comes to politics. YOu all decided not to care and let the politicians rule and tell you all what to do. You did this. You are to blame. I am partly to blame too for not being more persuasive. I accept that responsibility. Now you accept responsibility for being stupid and jaded.
Am I angry, you are damn right I am angry. It gives me motivation to get my software company off the ground where I will take all of you for a bunch of money and laugh in your faces. But as for the rest of you , I am out. America it is up to you now to fix it if you want. Stop worshipping the politicians and rallying behind kind words at conventions, you all know they are liars anyway so why even listen to them? Take them over if necessary. Our founding fathers encouraged Americans to throw out the government every few generations anyway to create a new one. Why do you think that is subversive and anti American. I am talking about overthrowing the government in favor of a new government that has true freedom in mind. True freedom is not pretty. People have to protect themselves under such a system. And break up America. The federal government should not exist. The country needs to be smaller manageable parts. If one state becomes corrupt there are 49 others to put pressure on the one to change its ways. If you get rid of the federal government it cannot be corrupted. After all how can you corrupt something that doesn't exist? -
Msr. Castro should adopt Bitcoin currency and keep Amerikans out until they pay the $120 Billion that the embargo costs. The arrogant Amerikan ass holes that lost a few bucks those many years ago can kiss my ass. Kissinger/Rockefeller, this means you!
-
Although this is all true about the American imperialist embargo, the island is a dictatorship as the Cuban government oppresses anybody who does not follow the orders of the Communist Party of Cuba. There are no free trade unions, no freedom to say I oppose the government, nothing independent of the ruling castroist party is allowed. Only the communist party and their mass organisations are and most Cubans do not look at these groups as tool of their own!

This propagandous and overly euphoric depiction of Cuba is sickening and an insult to people of reasonable intelligence. While any increased efforts in privatization in Cuba is good, understand that Cuba only allows for it after their charity life support crumbled and rendered Cuba's economic system an utter failure. They allow private business for having no other alternatives, other wise they wouldn't. In addition, one must have strong ties to the regime to become among the "chosen ones" ALLOWED to have a business. Hardly freedom!
Cuban authorities are quite rehearsed in the tired rhetoric of blaming the US and it's embargo for it's failed economy as a means to justify the horrible living condition to it's citizens. Lots of other countries to do business with, no need to blame the US, but very convenient for the regime. The embargo is the result of Castro's diplomatic brokering; 3 weeks after forcefully seizing control of Cuba, Castro confiscated foreign owned assets from entities. In reaction the US urged Esso to not refine oil for Cuba. Castro's reaction (Ernesto Guevara actually made the decision) was to state that Cuba wouldn't deal with the US at all any more. The US merely answered with "you got a deal" and kept that course. Castro has had many opportunities to reopen diplomacy with the US to work on their differences but he would never make negotiation concessions, he is the oppressor of prosperity for Cubans. And I don't care what positive baby steps you see in Cuba, it doesn't take away from the fact that Castro is a mass murderer, a sponsor and participant in international and national terrorism, he still has not allowed elections for the highest offices in government and still imprisons and kills innocent citizens. Their is no free speech, or free press, people are in fear of his regime and they are not free to leave.
Some people turn away from the truth and reality and praise the Cuban regime in self righteousness in order to promote a false ideology of communism. It is easy to debate and ponder over what political structure is preferable over another one, Cubans don't have time for such excesses, they have to worry all day how they are going to get food for their families while in fear of their regime. You model their government as superior to the
he US's evil, Cubans just want to leave it to come to the evil US. Why can't they just decide for themselves? Do you believe they are not capable?
I don't doubt the resourcefulness of the beautiful spirited Cuban people, their regime has hindered them from developing prosperity for themselves.
There is no use in interviewing people in Cuba, they are not free to speak their mind and fear for stating something that is not approved by the regime. Nice to show ONE successful restaurant operator, but Cuba has another 11 Million people. Opening trade with Cuba will strengthen their murderous oppressive regime, it will do very little for the prospect of the majority of Cubans. -
So, why the embargo? Is it because the US can not stand a state founded on Leninist/Marxist views? Or is it that Cuba is not ruled under The Bank of International Settlements? You choose..
-
Sounds like Cuba should be a model for everyone in the age of environmental destruction and global warming.
-
I laughed at 'the most powerful country in the world'.
-
Hmmmm, "The best quality food, comes from private producers" Not from the government owned producers. Well I'll be damned.
-
Abby, one question if everything is so much better in Cuba. Why did you come back? Actually, don't bother answering, your actions speak louder.
-
This is a really good documentary.Real journalism is refreshing.
