Cultivation Theory/Analysis (문화개발효과이론, 文化啓發效果理論) is a social theory developed by George Gerbner and his colleagues and it suggests that exposure to television, over time, "cultivates" certain perceptions of the world among viewers. Even light viewers of television are impacted via their social relation to the world and other heavy viewers. In this video, produced as a project for 'Comm 121: Intro to Media & Culture', students explore the subjects of violence, women, and drinking in the media by applying cultivation theory. It explains 1) "mean-world syndrome," one of the key findings in cultivation analysis, 2) Disney monopoly and the way in which Disney cultivates unhealthy images of women, and 3) drinking in media.
