Hastily created immediately after Pearl Harbor, DEMOCRACY IN ACTION was released by the Department of Agriculture to encourage greater productivity in the nation's farm belt. The movie describes how the last two years have set productivity records for United States agriculture, but that more work is needed given the desperate demands of the looming conflict. From cotton (4:25) used to make uniforms and bandages, to meat and grain used to feed troops or the tobacco the troops smoke, the film is a call to arms to the farmer. The film ends with scenes of troops eating food and notes that the average soldier requires "400 pounds of meat per year, 24 gallons of milk and 250 pounds of vegetables" and that "18 men behind the men behind the guns" are needed in the war effort. At the 9 minute mark the film shows the Lockheed Aircraft Factory. We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment!
