vue - Eating a Cashew Fruit
Have you ever wondered what a cashew looks like straight from the tree? The farm where I'm staying in Ujire, India has dozens of cashew trees growing; they're harvested for good money. The fruit itself is somewhat eatable (at least the juices are). Distributed by Tubemogul.

Nope....they don't have an extractor, they are all roasted on the outside to differing degrees to remove the outside casing (even in the factory) I lived near a factory in Fortaleza Brasil for 6 months, the smell was awful!! The only reason I say differing degrees is whether or not they are to sell it as a "raw" nut or a roasted one. Obviously raw would be for enough time to crack open the outside and roasted would be longer to allow time to cook the nut on the inside. You can cook them by throwing them in charcoal and then when they are burned on the outside, you pull them out and crack them open to eat perfectly roasted nuts. The double shell surrounding the raw cashew contains urushiol.
Urushiol is the same chemical found in poison ivy, and it is present on the leaves of the cashew tree as well as in the raw cashew shell.. -

The cashew Apple is completely edible when is ripe. It does have a chemical that tightens the muscles in the tongue and walls of the mouth. Specially if not fully ripe, sort of like the persimmon. Juice can be made from it, and the fermented fruit makes a delicious "chicha" or alcoholic drink. The nuts have to be roasted to be eaten. Fresh roasted cashew nuts are amazingly delicious!
