Marc Dufumier teaches agronomy at the 1st Agronomy University of France based in Paris and is a widely renowned as rural development worker. He emphasizes that agriculture based on "agroecology, the science of ecological farming" is the one that tries to make the most intensive use of renewable natural resources. His motto is that "agroecology is what agronomy should never have ceased to be." He speaks on the merits of ecological farming that recognises the complex relationship between plants, animals and microorganisms, in the atmosphere, and the soil. The object of an ecological farmer is no longer simply just a plant or just the soil. It is a complex ecosystem transformed by the farmer, but much less fragile than in industrial agriculture.
