Redgar, good questions! We use newly developed software called AgPixel to generate vegetation indexes such as NDVI. AgPixel was developed specifically for this application. It is expected to go on sale on Aug 1. The area depends on the required resolution and image redundancy. For the most accurate results you need to do reflectance averaging to get rid of light angle artifacts. We use Agisoft for that. Flight times on the S800 are about 12-15 minutes using 10,000mah 6S lipos.

Nice pictures, you really have some good results there. However, what are you going to do with them now? Are you post processing NDVI images? If so, what software are you using (imageJ/FIJI/Ned Horning plugin)? Can you give a few more details about the size of the area you photographed, Octo run time, camera type, settings, etc? Looks like you were flying manually, does your flight controller allow for waypoint/autopilot?

Plants reflect NIR light strongly, while absorbing visible light for photosynthesis. The ratio between NIR and visible reflectance gives an indication of plant biomass and growth characteristics.

Alex, yes the camera is a MaxMax conversion. We use Canon S95 and S100. The camera detects the red/NIR edge centered around 730 nm, as well as green and blue. Most of the red wavelengths are blocked. The longer NIR wavelengths are also blocked to limit NIR interference in the blue and green sensors.

Please can you tell us the type of camera you are using? I see it is a Canon is it a MaxMax.
