While it is currently neither known what type of fungus it is, nor if it is even safe for consumption, it has been put up on display by the man who made the discovery. Yunnan is well known as the "Kingdom of Mushrooms". The province reportedly has over 600 species of mushrooms which are safe to eat. Roughly two dozen of the edible mushrooms from the area are considered delicacies. It seems the newest discovery may have some growing to do to nab a world record. Two years prior to the most recent finding, a monstrous fungus weighing half a ton was spotted growing under a tree in China.
