Are you ready to learn to graft queen bees? Having the ability to raise your own queen honey bees is rewarding in many ways. -Saves money ( Queens cost roughly $25 each when purchased) -Self Sufficiency ( No longer rely on other beekeepers stock) -Working with nature In this video I show all the steps to raising your own queen bees. As a beekeeper you know that the queen is the heart of the colony. You also know that without her the colony will fail. Now think about the price of each queen you have purchased in the past. Now don't you think it's time to learn to raise your own? So sit back and learn to raise your own queen here today. Part 2 This video shows how to make queen-less splits and add the queen cells https://youtu.be/999X4o0bzw4 Go here for a *New and Improved Queen Rearing Calendar Generator* http://honeycomb-hill-beekeeping.blogspot.com/2013/07/queen-rearing-calendar-generator.html Here is my video on adding queen cells to nucs. http://youtu.be/iRQXEosNUUE -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: " Caging A Queen Bee " ➨ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3M8iB_Kus_w -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Excellent video ! I want to start rearing queens next year ! Have a couple of questions you may know the answer to :
Are the cups for the queens cells upside down ? Do the larvae just stick in there and not fall ?
When you put the larva into the plastic cup does it have to be in the same position as in the original wax cell it came from ? Is there any royal jelly in the original cell and if so do you scoop some together with the larva ?
Would it make a difference if you used capped or uncapped brood in the finisher box ?
How long before the finisher box fully builds the queen cells ? Do you check on them during that time ?
Thanks ! -
Useful and helpful thanks. Down here in Queensland we need al the help we can get. So much to learn. Cheers

Wow thanks a million dude. I can't wait to do this in the spring. I'm amazed by the difference in bee behaviour from one to another. I captured a swarm that's been off the charts with population. Excited to keep those genetics going. Did a queens less split me they are booming too.
So on deciding on how many splits to do must depend on how many queen cells you have. ????
Thanks again -
this is cool

where is the weirdest place that you have been stung?
-
Jason, when you moved the cell starter frame to the finisher hive, you showed the camera the starter frame and mention that many of the cells were accepted. Expound on the accepted part if you will... -Bill

I was just watching call of duty. How TF did I get here?🤔

This is amazing. It's so awesome to see how much work goes into making honey etc. I think ya'll do a wonder job! Thank you so much!

Where did you order your veil from?
-
When you say don't have any young larvae, you mean young larvae or eggs?

UPDATE: I just released a video showing how to make queen-less splits and adding the queen cells to splits. I have had a lot of requests for this video over the years, hope it helps. It can be seen here. https://youtu.be/999X4o0bzw4

Thanks so much Jason! I need to learn this. thanks for explaining. So when you collect the new unborn queen to put in queen less box. You collect her 2 days before she emerges and just place in new box? pretty cool

Jason the only concern I have is with the cell starter. I don't have two frames of empty comb to use. Can I use bare foundation or should I grab more honey / pollen frames?
-
Why do you have to put grafts back into a queen right colony?
-
Hey Jason, do you have any larvae in the finish hive? or just capped brood. Thanks, and great vid. Thanks for sharing. We set up 1 starter today, and will graft it tomorrow, and start another starter tomorrow too. Just am un clear if you have any larvea in the finisher, and will be using it tomorrow..... Thanks again Richard

Jason,
I noticed that you removed the queen cells from the grafting frame at 14 Days. I am just wondering how you arrived at 14 Days....Is that 14 Days from the day that the queen laid the egg - OR - 14 days from the day that you selected and placed the larvae from the mother hive into the grafting frame?
thank you so much for your help with this!!

Jason,
THANK YOU for making this video! The knowledge and experience that you have shared here has been immensely helpful. One question:
- Did you install wax queen cups inside the plastic JZ-BZ queen cups in this video? it looks like maybe it was just plain plastic queen cups that the bees had polished before you placed the eggs. I just wanted to make sure one way or the other. THank you again for all your help here.

I don't do any bee keeping but I like watching videos about bees. What is your opinion about the queen's royal jelly for human consumption? Does it really help or is it a dietary supplement? Happy bee keeping!!!!

Thanks for your help. Now feel fully ready to cope with a detailed question on grafting. Wha - hey!!

What a great instruction day! Thanks, Jason. Just in time for my queen rearing exam here in the UK. Only 1 thing we lack that you have - decent temperatures for grafting! Hard to do it at the apiary when it's so cool. But watching has helped greatly with the sequence of events. Thank you.
