I live in Virginia, zone 7b. It is winter now and it is December 22nd. My question is:"how often do I water my ginger plants that are indoors in containers?" They were out in summer. Growth is 1.6' -2'. Only one main stem with half dry leaves. Not sure when I planted them in spring. So probably 6-8 moths have passed. Should I let them continue to grow, or harvest? And temperatures being 70 degrees indoors, and moisture levels being (in soil) being 2 -5 points, how often should I water? Sorry for lengthy message, but you are smart and I know you will have the answer. ;) thank you.

Big deal, ginger, garlic etc is so cheap to buy, what's the point of growing it, specially garlic if it's going to take over 6 months to harvest??!!

awesome i just started some i didnt realize they didnt need light yet

Water without chemicals is best as no residue would build on soil. I use our Kangen water filter, slightly alkaline water and it's teriffic. thank you for the post, miss.

Thank you so much for sharing! I saw that my ginger starting sprouting a bit without being planted, so I was looking for something to do with it. I never had a green thumb when I was younger, but lately I've felt the need to start growing things in my house. I already looked at your growing garlic indoors video too and I'm going to plant them today as well. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I look forward to watching more of your videos! :D

Thank you so much! I have three rather large ginger plants now. It took about a month for them to sprout and after that they took off pretty quick. When I was growing them, one was under an orchid lamp and didn't really get much sun light, while the other two were in a window sill. The ones in the window sill took a bit longer to grow. I two live in the Pacific Northwest so it can be a bit cold and gloomy. It worked though! I've got three gorgeous ginger plants. Thanks again!

I live in zone 5b Pittsburgh. I just purchased a greenhouse last Fall. Can't wait to grow gi ginger. I will start them indoors till Spring. -
I tried this and planted it over a month ago and it hasn't sprouted yet. I think I either under watered it or over watered it. Or maybe it wasn't a very active piece of ginger. I will try again.
