Oh, my poor grape vines, and I was so happy thinking the 16-16-16 would help lol. Thank you for the feedback it's much appreciated, I've shared your video with family and friends. If I may, one more question. I bought some lemongrass from the store, hoping once grown they would repel mosquitoes, and put the lemongrass in a large bucket of water until the roots seemed reasonably long enough. Then I planted them , same as grapes but smaller buckets and only potting soil; one died and the others are alive but not growing. I created my 16-16-16 mixture after I put them in the pots so I put some not much to the top soil but no change. Any special soil for lemongrass? thank you.

Hi wonderful video, thank you for taking the time to make it. if I could trouble you for some advice. I got 5 grape vines from my local Home Depot , I live in Los Angeles and it's now summer. I transfered them to a bucket very similar to the one you have in the video. I put potting soil that has moss and permalite. I made several holes at the bottom of the bucket and put maybe 2 inches of small rocks for drainage and then potting soil and the vine. i tried to "tease" the roots as suggested in another video. I keep them in a sunny area and my father waters them daily. i put maybe an inch of pine mulch. One is very healthy but the other four are close to dead. I added some 16- 16-16 mixed with some Epsom salt and gypsum mixture I was using primarily for my citrus trees and my avocado. I wonder if this did not damaged them but why would one be very healthy? thank you. Jose (JW.Org)

I have some wild grapes that are very young and something keeps taking them do you know what it is?

It doesn't matter who you are, how experienced you are or what your location is... You can grow perfect grape vines that produce the juiciest grapes you've ever tasted.

How big would a red flame grape get in a 15 gallon container and a 12 tall and 2 foot wide trellis?

nice.

Thank you for the video. I am considering four himrod vines. Also Seedless Red Canadice Grapes and a few others. So many choices to make, and I do not know which to choose.

Is the grapevine a muscadine? Some muscadine varieties are self-unfruitful and won't set fruit without a "perfect" flowered variety. How much sun does the vine get? Sometimes a vine won't bloom if it doesn't get enough sun. It could also be a lack of pollinators.

They will produce grapes, but the grapes may not be much like Red Globe grapes. On the other hand they could be a new, great cultivar that is a mystery cross of Red Globe and something else.

Hello I enjoy your garden videos, so much that this year I got a little crazy. And I planted some of those red globe grapes seeds. They came up am thinking should I let them continue to grow. Or remove them some people are telling me they will not produce grapes. Is this the case?

My grapevine has a lot of foliage but no bloom or fruits? any possible reason? This is the third summer since I planted it.

Typically 15 to 20 lb. It's dependent on variety and cultural practices though.

What is typical yield from a single grape vine if pruned correctly?

Thanks!

If there is enough drainage they should be just fine. Clay holds nutrients very well. I would wait to see how they do, add some compost as a top dressing. If they do well then go ahead and leave them. If they seem to be doing poorly wait until they are dormant to transplant.

Hello, Im in the north (michigan), I recently planted two grape vines and there is a lot of clay in my soil should i take them out and mix in potting soil in a bigger whole, its pretty much all clay after a foot and a halph deep. what do you suggest?

As for the alkalinity you can try lowering the pH with soil sulfur but if it's in a real large area you're better off giving the plants iron and zinc in a foliar spray since those are the nutrients the high pH makes unavailable. If you are buying grapes from us, we have quantity discounts.

Grapes are widely adapted to a lot of different soils, so they're really not picky other than they like good drainage. Low fertility is better. If the soil is too rich you'll get top growth not grapes. Instead of soaking them in water you should heel them in with compost, sawdust, or dirt that way you'll be sure and not drown the roots. If you look at our heeling in fruit trees, its the same process.

My soil is alkaline, is very bad. I will have them in a bed for right now, made of top soil and manure. Later they will be permanent in my soil (alkaline). They had been in water for 3 days now (I change it every day). I hope I didn’t kill them! What ingredients the bed should have and the proportions? (top soil, manure, fertilizers/amendments, moss). California soil is blessed mine is not DESERT SOIL! Do they offer a discount if I buy large quantities? Thank you very much

Early spring is the best time to plant them in the North.
