vue - Growing Mushrooms at Home: Supplemented sawdust mushroom grow bags
This is how i make my shiitake grow bags for my indoor mushroom grow. They can also be used for oyster mushrooms, lions mane, king oyster mushrooms, or just about any mushroom. Although for oyster mushrooms i use soybean hull and fuel pellets. They are ~20% bran supplemented oak fuel pellet bags. 2x 40 lb bags of oak pellets 20 lbs wheat bran 5 lbs gypsum 2 lbs epsoma plant tone 15 gals hot water this makes ~240 lbs sub and fills my 55 gal drum to the top with grow bags. The bags are unicornbags.com L bags with .5 micron filter. Beacause of language problems I have a question, what part of the mixture is the mushroom?

what is the reason u seal & use no sleeve,I've been seeing others not seal& use a tyvek sleeve.

did you mix for 1month?
-
When you squeeze check your sawdust what are you looking for? Different brands of pellets have different water ratios.
-
since you are sealing the bags have you ever tried using liquid culture of some sorts to innoculate the bag? you would never have to break the seal after sterilization. but the substrate would be missing grain spawn then. what do you think?

Hey MM! Great tutorials! Folks have asked about your choice of "product/brand" for about all the items except the fuel pellets. Any hardwood blend ought to work fine, I would think. But what do you use out of curiosity and whats your opinion on the affordable $5-40lb bags? Sounds like they are cheap because they suck to burn... perhaps mycelium doesn't care?

Hi, I have a quick question concerning making these bags for reishi. I have read in GGMM that reishi growth suffers beyond supplementing 15% and is recommended at 5%, it's an older book though, have you done any reishi bags with a lower supplementation? I ask because I am getting ready to make reishi bags and i was going to use your recipe and method here, then I remembered reading that. Also do you find 5 lb's to be optimal for the large grow bags for invitro reishi? Also thanks for everything you do here, I have built your steamer and am getting ready to use it for the first time!

Is there actual sawdust being incorporated to the mix here? If so, what kind and quantity? Thanks.

MM, At the end of your video you showed us you reishi bags and said you would let them grow in the bag until they get to the patch. Question... will they form a cap on them this method or will they just remain a stem? Or do you have to cut bag level with substrate to get the classic cap on top. Thanks for all your posts. P.s. do you have a paypal e-mail, so people could donate to you.

you mention using oak fuel pellets, but then someone commented on using soybean hull pellets, i am confused? If they are oak fuel pellets can i just get them at home depot or lowes

Do you order soybean hull pellets online?
If you couldn't find an economical source of them what would you use as a substitute? -
hey I'm struggling to find that fertilizer over in the UK, I can't find the 5-3-3 mix, does it overly matter which one I use or if I use, say a 7-7-7 will it kill it? thanks in advance :)

I'm going to sound like such a novice here, but I am, if you mix all the ingredients together in the mixer, including hot water, then put them in the bags, why do you need to steam them too? And is there an easier/ different way to do it as you made the steam drug yourself? Thanks and love your videos, seems complicated and your videos actually make sense!

how did you make that steam sterilizer barrel?
-
hey how big are your bags? 14" or 16"?
-
What type of epsoma are you using heavy on nitrogen or. Heavy on phosphorus they have many at the local nursery here thanks again would le to try this out on shiitake mine fruit great on logs but not so good in bags
-
where do you find the soybean hulls?, are you in a state where they grow lots of soybean thsnk s

I should add, i only checked the weigh since this was a comparison batch. I was comparing yield of 5 lb vs 10 lb shiitake blocks so i wanted an accurate measurement of yield vs substrate size. And i don't know why i said 460 lbs, its more like 220 lbs total sub weight.
