Should use straw not Hay. Hay has millions of grass seed in it. You will end up weeding that bed for the rest of your life.

Fantastic

You had green potatoes when harvested which means that sunlight come trough and green ones are very dangerous for stomach ache.

Well done Huw, I kept you in mind as I grew my first potato. Deep fried "chips" coming up. I'm out of California but my Dad is from South Africa.

You cannot just go up to an equestrian center and ask for a free bale of hay. I live in the southwest United States and prices for a bale of hay as I write this are about $15 USD each. Straw is a bit cheaper, but the bales are very large; too large for one person to pick up or to transport in a passenger car.

The last photo showed the lush green growth; but then the very last frame showed NO green tops (12 weeks later?)' but only You pushing the straw away to pick the potatoes. What happened 12 weeks later to All of the Green foliage on top?

lots of green ones.. ill stay with the old method

Damn you look Fine as fuck!!

That looks really easy! Thanks!

Too much light got through to the spuds. More mulch might have helped. Maybe leaf mold would have been better than hay. More opacity is needed to prevent green potatoes.

:-( A lot of green on those potatoes . . .
There might be a large volume but I would not eat them.
Trying burying them next time. -
Where the heck did the above ground part of the plant go? Looks like they were just placed there and covered with straw/hay for the reveal?
