vue - How China (and Holland) competition killed french mushroom industry
A decade ago or more, people from Holland and from China came to this part of France. They bought the know-how and then copied this back home while cutting costs. This was the end of the french mushroom industry.

Just curious....how expensive is it to grow mushrooms?
Edit: I'm curious because my country is some of the few nation that China have a trade deficit with. There are ways to handle Chinese economy if you know how to navigate it. -
As far as mushrooms go, I don't really mind since I'm not too keen of them.:-) But I do wonder, in the long run, how can a heterogeneous continent such as Europe compete against a nation (China in that case) roughly 3 times its population. On another point, it's scary to see all these previous companies converted into residential homes (or country houses??). And more importantly, I wonder how much of these housings are actually being kept by French owners instead of foreigners. during my trip to Montpellier's vicinities in the country side back in 2007, I spoke with a local and she told me most of the lands were sold to foreigners, causing an unbearable inflation for the French middle class citizen. I find that this video contain a whole lot of rich topics/debates (tax free, quality vs pricing), so I need to restrain myself to this for the moment and go to bed. Thanks for sharing as usual. What's your take on all this? Do you feel some anxiety in this area (lack of jobs, less companies, inflation/deflation,...) or is it business as usual?
