I used this method and it worked. I was using that mentholated, extra-strength crap so it took my nostril about 10 days to finally heal up, but it was worth the wait.

I've been on Afrin for years, and I'd love to get off and I plan to try this method. But I've tried using it in only one nostril for at least 3 days before, and no signs of clearing up. I understand it takes will power, but I think those of you without anxiety and panic attacks underestimate how hard this is. When I can't breathe through my nose, I can't help but focus on my breathing. This gives me anxiety, and slowly I start to panic, because I start to feel like I'm not getting enough oxygen. This stress causes my body to react as if this is the case, and I have a panic attack. Sleeping without it is Nye impossible, as I already have sleep issues. ( upper back pain, and often sleep paralysis ) I also have common allergies. It's also Christmas, and there's a tree in my house... I want to stop using this poison soo bad, But I believe it's caused a plethora of bad side effects for me. I'm going to attempt this method and will post back if I have success. If you haven't used nasal spray before, or for less then a year STOP NOW. This shot will cost you a lot of stress and cash

I want to get afrin so bad! But I'm so scared too cuz I literally cannot breathe out of my nose if I don't use it! Help???

I'm such an afreenifer, lol!

I used afrin for 2 years straight after having a sinus infection that lasted almost a month and ended up quitting and I never breathed the same again. Every night I lay down to sleep like clockwork my nose completely clogs up and that never happened to me before I started. My ent put me on flonase and Zyrtec D and told me to use a sinus wash kit before bed and it doesn't do anything for me so if you're still on this stuff take it from me, take the 2week-1month temporary rebound congestion and quit otherwise you'll be plagued with congestion for the rest of your life.

I've got to do this, dreading it soooo bad.

Dear Flonase salesmen/representatives,
It would be great if you'd STOP using my helpful video to try and steer customers toward your product. I wouldn't really have a problem with it if Flonase helped people with Afrin addiction but FLONASE DOES NOT HELP Afrin addiction. Posing as regular people with a comment on here is reckless and unkind. You may view yourself as a "blogger" or "salesman" but really you're confusing people that need help. FLONASE DOESN'T HELP WITH AFRIN ADDICTION -
gonna try it get back to you in a week thanks

Um I don't think diphenhydramine or aka benadryl is a sleep aid it's a antihistamine. A sleep aid would be ambien or melatonin.

Last year a friend of mine was staying at our house for a week and I learnt he was HOOOKED on this shit. Like, several YEARS hooked. I kinda laughed about it and thought, just stop! But he said it wasn't so easy. So. What I did, and I did it because I am a very curious fellow. Was I went to the dollar store behind my house and bought a bottle of it. I figured, well. Lets see what happens after three days - I have allergies btw after I moved out west.
Anyway. The stuff was awesome. Cleared me up perfectly. Like, wow. But. On day 5 I couldn't breathe out of my nose.
So. What I did was, I took saline solution, and diluted what I had left to about 50%. I stuck a piece of cotton up one nostril and only used it in the other. After 3-4 days, the side I wasn't squirting into started to heal up. And because I diluted the nasal spray to 50% day one, then to maybe 25% or less on day 3 by the time I could breath out of my right nostril again, the left healed up even faster.
So, what i told my buddy was, do what I did, and he got off it in a week after 6 years!
Now, what is deeply concerning and why I have been an advocate to get this shit off the market is, he developed a polyp in one of his nasal cavities from over use of this shit.
IF you are stuck on this crap. And can not get off it even with this simple method. See a doctor and TELL HIM or HER, you are addicted and HAVE been for a long time and ask for a 1 week steroid treatment. This will open your nasal passages up so you can breathe. Otherwise, do exactly like this dude said to do, but I do suggest dilution of the afrin so that detox from this crap is easier.
It works, you just have to maintain control over, over use and NOT spray into the stuffed up nostril.
If you can't do that and are compulsive. Go buy a locking kitchen safe that you set the time on, so it opens every 6 to 8 hours. Take your snort then lock it back up.
It is insane how many people are hooked on this stuff and do NOT talk about it. Do not be afraid to bring it up. Because it is actually very easily beaten. Good luck homies. -
so this worked like a champ! thank you. I used a little vicks under my nose a couple nights and that helped a little too. I officially have my two day chip ... (; ugh so glad that's over. I had only used it for about 2 months but it was getting to the point where I was waking up in the middle of the night because I couldn't breathe, and if you know anything about me it's how damn much I value my hibernation time. I got this fancy nose thing called SleepRigt (in lue of strips) ... well once I realized I was putting it in upside down it was much more comfortable and doesn't leave that sticky adhesive on my nose ..... it also doesn't get stuck on my pillow case in the middle of the night, so there's that. thanks for this advice. I'm never using that shit again. bleh. now .... if you can just tell me how to make my wood floor stop creaking without driving nails into the floor ..... you would be my hero!

I like this idea and starting tonight am only using it in one nostril. I sleep with CPAP and it is totally necessary to have open nostrils. Got hooked on the Afrin within 2 nights and now its been almost a week and, well you know the rest probably.

Jeremy...I cannot thank you enough for this video. I got hooked on Afrin 34 years ago and you helped guide and inspire me to get off. It truly ruled my life with its rebound effect. Not expected was that I don't have dry eye...the red eyes are gone...the puffy eyes are gone. It is freeing and I feel great. It took me about 4 days....flonase helped but only needed it briefly. I am astounded at how fast it was but mostly how many things improved without it. A million thank yous!

I was addicted for 9 years after a severely broken nose and I can say that quitting nasal spray was worst 2 weeks of my life old turkey.
-
i just literally got rid of the nasal spray addiction simply by stopping using it. It took a ton of trys but eventually i got rid of the addiction and have been off it for at least 3 weeks. I feel amazing now.
-
Dont they make some nasal strips with medicine inside them? would that be something ok to use? I had nasal surgery in 2009 when I started highschool and about february of this year I got a little cold and wasnt sleeping to good for a few nights and got desperate and decided to use nasal spary.
-
I always end up kicking the habit eventually, until I get the next cold that is! Then I'm back on the junk! But doesn't it just FEEL SOOO GOOOOOD when you hit the spray and it starts to work its magic? Just a lil sting and then its like your first breath of fresh air! As if I have just woken up and smelled the roses, Hallelujah! I know I'm a dope fiend because when I need more, I can start to feel it as soon as I pull up to the drug store! I'm ready for more! I need my fix! I snorted HIGH GRADE COCAINE a bunch of times. It didn't really do much of anything for me! I never thought about it afterward or craved more and more. Never saw what all the rage was about. But that oxymetazoline??!! Give me more baby!! I need it!! I might die without it!! Do you know a drug store around here that is 24 hours????????
