Could one use an egg to grow bactiera, provided one had had some type of sugar in the petri dish for bacteria growth?
-
Yes, but sterilization in an autoclave is usually mandatory to kill spores.

go to the web site and buy from their

Have you done any tests using colloidal silver? I am looking to collect testimonials. thanks

@programedmind If you have a glass petri dish, you can use a bleach solution to kill the bacteria and then clean out the dish and sterilize it in hot water to reuse again with new agar. But you should always just dispose of plastic petri dishes.

@HomeScience so ounce u grow bacteria in a petri dish you cant use it again?
-
@HomeScience Thanks but im already done my science fair experiment wish me luck!

@storebror21 Thanks for the suggestion! We'll add that to our future videos list.

@VintageGirl3100 You can buy agar pre-made (look for liquid nutrient agar - that's the easiest to use) or just mix up some unflavored gelatin to use instead of agar. You can find agar and petri dishes at any science supply store, like Home Science Tools. Good luck!

@funnychoccookie Most household bacteria grown in small colonies won't be harmful as long as you are careful! Keep your petri dishes covered except when first exposing them to bacteria. Once bacteria colonies are growing, you can use gloves to handle the petri dishes. And when you're done with the experiment, add a splash of bleach into each dish and then seal it in a bag before throwing it out.

i've heard that you can't be exposed to the culture because it could be contagious
-
@superolz99 You can find unflavored gelatin at the grocery store (look on the baking aisle) and agar is available at science supply stores (like Home Science Tools).
-
@megamarko94 Try searching for something like "identifying bacteria" to find a site with common bacteria photos. Some bacteria requires tests like Gram staining to identify it, but for some household bacteria types you could use online guides to help you figure out which types you might have.
-
You don't have to use agar. You can use un-flavored gelatin.

nice thats what im doing thanks.
