vue - How To Propagate True Yams/Dioscorea Alata & A Second Harvest?
I created this video with the YouTube Video Editor (https://www.youtube.com/editor) One of my goal in my organic garden is to grow food that can be stored and last a good while without refrigeration. Tubers such as sweet potatoes and yams are good examples. This video shows how I propagate yam (true yam). Although it is a tropical plant by nature, it can be grown in the US where the climate is subtropical such as southern part of Florida. In my case I grow it in my greenhouse, but as you can see in the video I have a big surprise harvest which grew outside the greenhouse.

Hi Jo, Can I use the same system to propagate purple yams? I learnt a lot from your video. Thank you.

Yams are native to the tropical places like the Philippines. Yes, they are heat loving plants and thrive in sunny locations. Plant them outside when the night temperature is 50 and above.

How soon would you plant them outside? Do you plant them in full sun? Best wishes Bob.
