Researchers in Eastern Africa are advocating, the "inter-cropping" of trees and food-crop, as a means of increasing, productivity in agriculture. The practice, known as "Intensive Agriculture and Agro-forestry," entails farmers planting their food-and-value-crops, on the same-plot and in-between the rows, of trees. The trees provide shelter, nutrients and work to aerating the soil.
