Investing in commercial tree planting could be one of the solutions to reducing the pressure of natural forest destruction and restoring forest cover, especially the Central Forest Reserves. Foresters say commercial tree planting pays a great deal, not only in timber dealing, poles and wood fuel, but also provides employment to a great number of a community. Sawlog Production Grant Scheme (SPGS), a Public-Private Partnership project under the Ministry of Water and Environment has for the last 10 years supported individuals and companies to grow commercial trees. And now our environment reporter Stephen Mwiri takes us to some of the commercial tree dealers and how this contributes to the country’s afforestation;
