In one of my interviews I have explained that I made many films of Far Eastern countries myself. After uploading those on YouTube viewers asked whether I didn't have more and I started searching and buying old films, which I have had digitalized also. Since then I have some eight million viewers for my 780 vids!

Now for my comment! When I first clicked on this video, I was thinking "I already know what rice planting looks like..." so I was very pleasantly surprised to see many details that I didn't know about. The foot-powered water wheel, the windmills (I didn't realize Japan utilized those before), and the ladder used to plant rice in a straight row. All fascinating to see! Thank you as always for posting such great material!

Michael - for this one I'll translate just a tiny part (this one is more difficult and I don't want to do it wrong): "I'm assuming that you must have access to various film archives."

I just posted a translation of the Japanese comment (replying to the poster above). Probably not perfect, but I believe accurate in overall content and intent.

Michael - here is a translation I just did of the above: "I often wonder how you come to have so many valuable old videos like this one. I feel deeply grateful for the opportunity to see aspects of (former) daily life from both my own country and other countries that I didn't know about. It produces profound feelings when I think that my own grandfather and grandmother may have lived like this. Thank you very much for making this material available to watch."

Sorry, but I cannot read Japanese characters.

Thank you for uploading many great historic films.

I do not understand Japanese so have this translated through Google. I'm 83 years old and picture the world in my clips when I was a youth. When this film was made I was not even born yet. However, I have climbed the slopes of the Mt. Fuji 50 years ago and filmed what I saw then.
