vue - Juan Enriquez: The life-code that will reshape the future
http://www.ted.com Scientific discoveries, futurist Juan Enriquez notes, demand a shift in code, and our ability to thrive depends on our mastery of that code. Here, he applies this notion to the field of genomics. Great Talk!! -
I feel the impact of knowing the whole genome sequence of a species is a little exaggerated. It is not even the tip of the iceberg....because there are infinite possibilities how these genes can be used/spliced/silenced by an infinite number of proteins that interact with DNA. As we start tampering with the genome we can easily introduce errors in the processes that carry out function which may not become evident 10,20,30 years down the road in the form of ie. cancer. At which point the negative consequences would be irreversible.

I just signed up for 23andMe Genetic coding for $100 dollars! :)

Watson and Crick didnt discover DNA they only helped then stole the information.

@8:00 Did Jurassic park teach you fools nothing?! :P

Holyshit is pretty accurate. Mastering this tech means wonderful things for all life we care to use it on, ourselves having the option of something that might seem mundane someday - immortality and endless potential experiences

Kim Jon-Il's $4billion in secret assets were in a Luxembourg bank. Let's state the obvious: Financial instrument sales produce more GDP than patent trolling.
-
Luxembourg ranked 13th in the world for Economic Freedom. Amazon is headquartered in Luxembourg for tax and legal purposes. I wish Juan could be more intellectually honest about politics. Property rights and limited govt matter more than patent trolls regarding a country's future success.

Awesome talk; then he tries to act like an economist and says Argentina isn't failing due to restrictive Govt policies and inflation. 5 years later everyone agrees Argentina failed because of inflation; not the lack of people churning the patent mill. Otherwise this talk was one of the best I've seen. Up there with Dean Ornish.

can't believe the host is so rude to end his brilliant talk so abruptly!
-
the second half of the talk is too generalizing

The future is in the code, as well as understanding the past, I fear it will be controlled by the wrong people though.
-
what about the 'how to make monies with it' part?
