Il existe deux scorpions indigènes : le scorpion noir qui fréquente entre autres les habitations, et le scorpion jaune du Languedoc qui a élu domicile sous les pierres des garrigues. Les scorpions se caractérisent par deux bras munis de pinces et une queue terminée par un dard. Si l'injection de venin par certaines espèces tropicales peut être mortelle pour l'homme, les scorpions présents en France sont tous inoffensifs. Le scorpion noir se rencontre communément à l'intérieur des maisons méditerranéennes. De taille réduite (3 à 5 cm), sa piqûre à l'aide de son aiguillon caudal n'est absolument pas dangereuse. Tout au plus, elle provoque une douleur bénigne passagère. Le scorpion jaune languedocien (Buthus Occitanus), ou scorpion occitan, d'une longueur de 5 a 7cm reste caché durant la journée. Comme tous les scorpions, il réserve son activité à la pérìode nocturne.Mais attention, gare à sa piqûre, car même si elle n'est pas dangereuse, elle s'avère toutefois très douloureuse et peut provoquer chez certains sujets des complications temporaires (fortes fièvres, paralysies locales, etc.). --------- There are two native scorpion: the scorpion black attending among other homes, and the yellow scorpion of Languedoc, which is housed under the stones of scrubland.
