vue - Molasses based fertiliser using seaweed emulsion or worm "juice"/castings tea..
We have seen some great growth lately after applying molasses based liquid fertilisers so thought I would share how we have been mixing it up.. Will be moving onto a worn "juice"/wee & worm casting tea once the seaweed emulsion runs out.. JUST A QUICK NOTE.. Blackstrap is the molasses that is left after the 3rd boiling of the syrup.. It can be sulphured or unsulphured depending on how the cane was processed.. Please look into the pros & cons of sulphured & unsulphured before trying it on your garden.. Hi I'm just wondering how often this can be used. Also if over used can it be detrimental to the plants. I also heard about using Epsom salt as well. Can molasses be used together with Epsom salt if so at what rate please.

Where do you find those planters?

any recommendations for adding nitrogen to a homemade seaweed fertilizer? Would adding coffee grinds or weed greens work? cheers

Please check your ph before adding liquid nutrients/teas !

Hello RobBobs! Can that mixture be added to an aquaponics system?
-
Thanks, RobBobs for the tips on organic fertilizers. I live in a tropical place and I want to start with my own organic garden, but I wondered if pouring something sweet to the ground will not be a problem rather than benefit to attract the common ant or the terror of the gardens, the dreaded "cepe" (Atta). Regrds :)

Greetings sir! You've mentioned in other clips using molasses to kill nematodes and I was wondering if the molasses:water ratio for that is similar to the fertilizer ratio. Also, regarding the bit about making the leaves unpalatable to pests, would a weaker concentration added to the soap insect spray have a lasting deterrent effect? And if so, would it be safe to use on the aquaponic plants?

That would make sense re the sulphur.. Wouldn't of even considered marmite Patrick. :D We have Vegemite in the pantry but think that might give the microbes a heart attack with its salt content.. Have you collected seaweed to feed the worms ? Wonder how they would go in it.. Cheers & have a great one., Rob

I am lucky I am near the beach, I have a worm farm too started 3 weeks ago. I think the sulphur can irritate some of yor beneficial microbes I think thats the issue aalso I think there is something where it turns to sulphur dioxide. not good ya would have to double check that though.have you also thought about adding a bit of marmite for b vitamins?

Just harvest some castings today from the bathtub farm.. Don't think I will have enough seaweed fertiliser to do the whole garden next round..
-
I am yet to add it to the compost as we only have a tumbler at the moment.. Hope you & yours have an excellent 2013 as well.. :)

Thanks :) We have had a bit of a mild summer so far... Stay warm..

I haven't found any dry molasses but haven't really looked either... Thanks for that... Liked the new toy too BTW... Have a great one..

I'm really enjoying spending my winter gardening vicariously through you; and you do such a lovely job. :-)

:D I would like them back minus the fur ball f I could please :) Have a great one..

Yes! I love using molasses! I also use dry molasses and mix it into my soil. :-) You have beautiful plants!

I got the idea for using is as a pest spray from one of Murray's AP clips Bobby... Worked a charm on the cabbage butterfly caterpillars.. Haven't used it on aphids or grasshoppers yet but have tried it with little affect on leaf eating beetles.. All the best to you & yours for the new year :)

I think Murray had said something about using molasses to help with aphids. It seems to be an all purpose product that helps in all sorts of ways. I use it in tea, but haven't used it enough as a foliar spray to say whether or not it was helpful.
