this is genius! you should post step by step instructions on instructables ;)
-
is thatvthe gremlins song?
-
have you tried to mix some straw or wood chips to lower heat
-
Ah, found it! Can you please tell me the model of that car jack??
-
Alternatively you could scoop the hulls into pillow cases and drop those into the pasteurizer, like tea bags. Twist to wring them out and then just pour them onto the table for drying and inoculation.
-
You don't think maybe you just have too much nutrition, hi I am the guy who was asking if mushroom growing is a viable source of income I finally jumped into the field and I owe it to you thank you.

Beark out the jack hammer.
-
You could prop the barrel up as well to get a bit more height using bricks or 2x 4 or whatever.

Hey how moist should your straw be before your spawn it? My most recent logs I sterilized using lime and they all got contaminated because they were too wet. My newest batch is 2/3 straw 1/3 saw dust sterilized with lime then drained with weights on top for a little over an hour.
But what would you suggest I do with not having a big press? -
If the air quality is less than it should be then you are right that colonizing in closed filtered containers works better. As long as the work area and colonization area have a filtered air intake with at least a mold grade furnace filter the air quality will be good. My problem was coming from live bacteria growing in the drain system to a cistern/leech field.

...i think the majority of the problems with straw or cottonseed hull logs comes from open air colonization...and when you can control the colonization with the hepa patch bags it makes it a more productive grow outfit...regardless iive learned a lot from your videos and commend you for keeping this channel going! It's much appreciated to many mushroom growers out there! Cheers

Super stoked to see your ever-evolving set up and processes youve got going on...but i have to ask...why dont you switch over to supplimented sawdust blocks...it seems you have the space to make that happen and could very easily produce many more lbs kings that are the size your chefs are looking for. I've been steaming 54 bags at a time for 8 hours (1 tank of propane + 3, 55 gallon drums) and i havent had one contamination problem yet for lions mane and king oysters...

I would take the sink out if you can, they aren't really necessary and the extra draining from it just creates more space for crap to breed. Incense stick is a good idea. I noticed today that when i pour a lot of water down the remaining drain that i have it causes bad air to try to push out of the pipe i cut, which is now sealed with a plastic baggie and rubber band and i can see it puff up. I have my remaining drain plugged with cover and trashbag when not in use.

I'm still in a slow basement conversion mode, I have a sink & 2 drains as well. Will an incense stick show if air is backwashing? I have short yard, urban space, concerned with spent logs rotting down on my compost. My outside air intake won't be far away so thinking I may have to transport offsite to avoid sucking contam. right back into basement. Thinking about a chicken run on backside of garage, do chickens like the spent logs? That would close the biologic loop and fix two probs
-
I didn't realize there was air flow in the bad drain until i increased the ventilation vacuum out of the basement and could lick my fingers and tell. So now that is all blocked with cement and the washbasin (another problem) is gone. Next vids will explain.
-
I will keep using it all the time. If anything it cuts the weight down considerably when moving the logs around. At the moment though it still hasn't fully solved my contamination problems as you will see in the next vids but it certainly is in the right direction. I think now that my problem all along might have been a bad drain in the basement (there are 2 in mine) that I just discovered has no sewer gas trap.
-
Nice press, Do you think you will use all the time or just over heat months in summer? Waiting for a split test on yield, press vs non-press on substrate...but that's another video!

Very nice mate , Keep making Videos !!!
