THE NEW AGE ( UNB ) : The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina had a meeting with senior army officers on March 1 at Sena Kunja in Dhaka Cantonment against the backdrop of brutal killing of army officers during the February 25-26 rebellion inside the BDR headquarters. During nearly three-hour-long meeting behind closed doors, the prime minister, also in charge of defence ministry, was learnt to have delivered an emotive statement on the heinous incident and explained her government steps to put down the trouble and try and punish the killers. In her speech the prime minister said she just lacked language to condemn the brutal, barbaric killings in the two-day turmoil at the BDR headquarters. Hasina said the criminals behind the killing of the army officers must be tracked down, brought to justice and given toughest punishment. Army officials who were rescued alive from the besieged BDR headquarters after the revolt were present at the meeting. The prime minister said none can feel the pain of losing kith and kin more intensely than she does as she lost her family members, including father, mother and brothers, in the August 15, 1975 carnage. Sources in the meeting said the army officers who were rescued alive depicted a harrowing picture and nightmares they experienced inside Pilkhana and demanded that the government should identify the criminals behind the killings through a fair and neutral investigation for protection of the countrys sovereignty and independence. The agriculture minister, Matia Chowdhury, the army chief, General Moeen U Ahmed, and the adviser to the prime minister, Tareque Ahmed Siddiqui, were present.
