The ecology of the area is benefitted coz its a small scalle venture and produces nice ,organic manure for the Farm. It benefits local economy coz the eggs and produce dont travel far.they get consumed in naerby areas reducing carbon footprint and increasing food availability and generates Employment to locals. This venture improves the FOOD and NUTRITIONAL SECURITY of the region IMMENSELY. I highly recommend it for each and every farm. A good quality, natural, organic diet keeps our flock healthy and disease free. These are 7 month old Organic Free-range hens. They are now fully grown. Their reproductive organs all are ready only after 6 months. At 7th month a steady supply of organic eggs starts. Good for your country because saves precious foreign exchange- most Nations r going bankrupt trying to subsidise petroleum based synthetic fertilizers. Azolla is an excellent food supplement for backyard poultry. It is easy to grow and practically free of cost. It helps keep feathers shiny and improves their digestion. It is cooling and keeps their bones strong. This is a nice backyard type of business activity to generate employment and income for small and marginal farmers, housewives, unemployed youth, bored teenagers, enterprising people as well as organic farmers, health fanatics etc. Main requirements for a 100 hen poultry: 1) A warm and cozy nursery coop or room to nurse the little chicks during first 3 months. A small room of about 10 feet by 10 or 15 feet should be enough. The coop height can be around 4 ft. as extra height costs extra. 2) A 2nd coop for the 3 to 5 month adolescent chicks. This coop should have a sufficiently spacious sunning and playing area. A properly fenced and protected open air courtyard where they sun themselves and peck around. Hawk, eagle, mongoose, dog, cat and rat all will try to catch your chicks. So a fish net above as roofing and nice grilld fence all around is a MUST. 3) The final coop for grown hens with at least half an acre fenced for grazing and growing. That is what you see in this video. The fool-proof fencing is very important. We used galvanized diamond mesh. With this initial infrastructure one can venture into a small scale organic poultry. Normally it may take about 1 year to learn how to grow the chicks properly.so regular income can be planned for the 2nd year onwards.
