vue - Saffron Crocus Sativus Planting 2014
Saffron is one of the most expensive spices in the world. I decided to investigate it and try to plant some. They are a fall flowering plant, and you don't want them to cross pollinate with the spring crocus because you can't eat the spring crocus. We will have to wait until next fall to see the pretty flowers. They are planted in a pot so that they can clump up in the bulbs. Please leave any advice in the comments section. See you in the garden, Chox =)

I don't think you need to worry about cross pollination between the two types of crocus considering they bloom at different times. When saffron crocuses bloom, the spring varieties should be dormant in the ground.

Please keep updating about the Saffron. I am going to plant some myself next year. I'd like to know how yours are doing.

Hi Chox
My guess is that if one blooms in spring, it will not cross pollinate with one that blooms in autumn, simply because of the 6 months difference in blooming, the bees or whatnot will not keep on to the spring pollen that long :o)
