vue - Sandalwood, The Golden Havest - The Story of Sandalwood in Western Australia
Australian Sandalwood is a unique native tree crop, grown for its high value aromatic heartwood, with potential to generative income from the oil rich nuts. Well adapted to wheatbelt conditions, sandalwood plantations can aid in managing agricultural risk through diversification and contribute towards reducing salinity and erosion in wheatbelt farming systems. My sandalwood tree seed from the bush tucker people, "Bushfood Australia", has sprouted, okay, here in the Lachlan Valley, NSW. It endured the winter and heavy frosts, here, and came up okay on its own this past spring. It's growing under a gum tree in heavy clay and is sitting amidst a Hardenbergia violacea vine. Seems to be standing the hot dry summer very well. I look forward to it growing into an adult tree with fragrant wood and edible nuts. I'm still waiting for my many quandong seeds to germinate, but they have thicker shells than sandalwood and, thus, take longer to germinate than do sandalwoods. I'll be planting more sandalwood trees from seed in 2016, as they do seem to like it here. ;)

Sandalwood is one of the best ingrediants for mens fragrances.
-
How do you wait for 20 years to harvest the crop?
Even considering there might be different batches -
How long does it take (years) for full maturity of the tree, from seedling?
-
very profitable semidesert crop!

I hope you don't mind my suggestion: have a look at he Groasis Waterboxx, right here on Youtube. The Waterboxx makes it possible to plant and grow trees in very arid condition, without irrigation. It would make planting sandalwood trees more effective.

I really believe that Sandalwood will thrive and become more recognized for all of its wonderful properties and benefits. I am grateful that mother nature has given such a diverse plant to us. I am using skin care products derived from Sandalwood and have fallen in love with the scent, its healing properties and I feel like i am just more calm when i smell sandalwood.

There are 7 billion people on earth and you think we need to worry about feeding them? That is incredibly stupid. The earth is overcrowded because humans have done too good of a job of growing food. It's time to stop the madness and grow LESS food. For fucks sake. How many billions of fucking people and how much pollution do we need to have on earth before idiots like you stop talking about feeding starving people?

the mysore sandalwood has a lot more alpha and beta santanols... Those are the organic compounds that give the fragrance... The australian sandalwood is pretty low quality...
-
dos the mysore sandalwood oil and the Australian sandalwood oil different in fragrance or quality!??

no natural predators!!!! Bullshit!! Everything eats little sandalwoods,,,,they are succulent, juicy, and very palatable to herbivores of all descriptions. i grow sandalwood,,,,i love them. I love them because they are the big protein source that is absent from the bush.....not because it is supposed to be that way,,,,but because all the bush has been raped of sandalwood.....since the days of the Swan River Colony,,,,it has just been a continuous rape of the bush.

How many of you have seen pure sandalwood oil ? It is is also considered liquid gold...
-
how about using sandalwood chips with rice? I once got rice pilau in an indian restaurant with what I think was sandalwood... tasted almost toffee like, it was really nice.

Sandalwood is my most favorite scent in the whole wide world!

the usual crime: this project uses our resources to grow useless stink bush, to avoid growing wild food trees. i have studied herbs and biology for 40 years, including complex system effects. the aromatics contain poison alchohols (antimicrobials) that keep wood dry and resist rot, but edible food plants have that also. you can plant fruit and nut trees anyywhere, especially near people, who are starving and dying in some areas. we have 6 billion people to feed. - james mcashan for the US Senate
