vue - Sarah's Front Yard Jackfruit Tree in South Florida
For daily gardening inspiration, visit http://www.thesurvivalgardener.com. Growing jackfruit trees in South Florida is not only possible, it can be profitable. I went and visited my friends Chuck and Sarah a couple of weeks ago and filmed their amazing front yard jackfruit tree. In their location near Fort Lauderdale, the jackfruit tree is quite close to the upper end of its range. Just a little further north and growing jakfruit would be basically impossible without protection or a very good microclimate. A big thanks to Sarah for sharing her jackfruit growing experience.

Those are not little fruits on the outer branches. They are the male flowers full of pollen. After a few days of shedding pollen they dry up and drop off.

White American don't know how to take care of Jack tree. There nothing wrong of it, cause that not they native fruit. You have to pick some off the free. Then your Jack fruit will grow them 50, 60 pound fruit. Cause that tree age is the right age for big fruit. If you want more bang for your buck. Learn to cut some fruit off.

How big does the fruit get?
-
I think the lady said it started bearing fruit its sixth year could be wrong though that sounds about right

Man...I'd be afraid to walk under that tree!

Do people steal your jackfruit? I ate the seeds once (boiled I think) and they were good.

My guesses with the problem with your jack fruit not getting really big before it fall off is, the tree need a good prune to allow air flow through the tree; a quick look at the ground it looks damp and the trunk looks like it has moss or mould growing on it. From my experience, trees that get too much water will drop fruit and struggle. It's like the tree is drowning..So let the ground dry out once in a while but not for too long.
