SENEGAL: mainstreaming agricultural risk management into national policies - (C) PARM 2016 "When a fisherman goes out to sea, he never knows what lies ahead. Is he going to be better off on his return, or is he going to go into debt?"..."What happens in the event of a crisis? What happens if disease strikes or if you are faced with a climate shock? How does this crisis impact the livestock farming industry?"... These are some of the questions raised from two studies launched by the Platform for Agricultural Risk Management (PARM) whose purpose was to identify risk and calculate its cost for the fishing and livestock farming industries in Senegal to complement a World Bank study and presented to a National Stakeholder Workshop in Dakar in June 2016. Having identified and measured the risks, the next step is to introduce the tools that will help us handle them. The ultimate goal will be to mainstream agricultural risk management into the public policies of our partner countries. This responsibility lies with the Platform for Agricultural Risk Management, a global initiative launched with the support of the European Union, the French, Italian and German governments and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
