In Mauritania, 67 per cent of people earn a living through agriculture. Finding water in this desert country to support crops, livestock and families is not easy under normal circumstances. Unpredictable rainfall and climate change have people living in a chronic state of crisis When there is drought, as in 2011, they become more vulnerable. The Mauritanian Red Crescent and IFRC responded with a twin track approach, providing emergency support while planning for long term resiliency. Interventions included rehabilitating three water points and outfitting them with solar panels.
