The Other Inconvenient Truth: How Agriculture is Changing the Face of Our Planet We typically think of climate change as the biggest environmental issue we face today. But maybe it's not? In this presentation, Jonathan Foley shows how agriculture and land use are maybe a bigger culprit in the global environment, and could grow even larger as we look to feed over 9 billion people in the future.

or we could eat less or, at best, no meat at all which could be a golden option in any case for everybody... just saying..
-
This is mis-information. co2 does nothing as far as warming is concerned.
-
One way of increase plant growth is by increasing the percentage of CO2 in the atmosphere.
-
CLIMATE CHANGE!!!! Scream the pussies-in-the-air loony and irrelevant stupid FUCKS.
-
Failure is the only option we have. Man will have to learn to do without on so many levels, it will never happen. To go without massive food availability, things like running hot and cold water, and electricity, will never happen. We will unquestionably breed ourselves to extinction.

Feed 9 billion people ?
Why not feed only 5 billion and let the other 4 billion perish ?
That'll solve a lot of problems. -
He very obviously knows about the solution, but doesn't mention it. I feel sorry for him, I know how it feels when you are scared that people will not take you seriously anymore the moment the word "vegan" crosses your lips. Yet he missed a very good opportunity. We are past the point of being able to be excused for holding back the truth. We must speak up. In a sense, this talk was very vague. it made his audience aware of a problem, but stopped there. What are people who are uneducated in the field of agriculture to do with a conclusion such as the one he offers? He should have told them what kind of changes they need not make when making their day-to-day consumer decisions. All this talk will spark is feeling of helplessness and powerlessness ultimately leading to an attitude of indifference, which is very dangerous.

Actually this is probably the ONLY Inconvenient Truth and probably the main cause for Man Made Global Warming as the impact on the 'de-greening' of the Planet can be seen from Space and there are less plants to turn carbon dioxide into oxygen. The other one, the multi-billion dollar industry where (now) richer-than-Romney Al Gore is the High Priest of a New Global Government Religion centered at the IPCC Church, has been relegated to the back pages of History along with the previous media frenzy scare of the Y2K fiasco, since NONE of the 'predictions' made by Gore in his 'Documentary' have materialized in the time span he predicted. My GF's relatives in Brazil had already told me on how their government was offering incentives, by cutting swaths of virgin jungle land that measure tens of feet tall in order to plant soybean that is mostly used for bio-fuels. You are replacing many (3-dimensional) cubic feet worth of green, for almost (2-dimensional) flat square feet of green. Jonathan Foley is onto something that should have received the funding and media attention it deserves. The problem is that there are other Environmentalist Groups (those who spouse bio-fuels, ethanol, etc) who would be against since their worthless, contra-productive causes would be exposed as the frauds they really are.

water increases in global warming
-
We not only need solutions to the agricultural crisis, we need to have a global discussion on global population growth. Growing more food just means more people and the cycle will continue.

The Aral sea is salt water i.e. not drinkable. This info is propaganda for climate change. Water is replenishable.

Peak soil just around the corner:
"Generating three centimeters of top soil takes 1,000 years, and if current rates of degradation continue all of the world's top soil could be gone within 60 years."
http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/only-60-years-of-farming-left-if-soil-degradation-continues/ -
Don't forget that crops and plants also take in carbon dioxide, while energy generation only emits carbon dioxide. Agriculture may emit 40% of the CO2 but it is also locking in CO2 at the same time. Land is actually a big sink for carbon, instead of being a source.

Maybe instead of stopping animal agriculture, we should try to develop ways to effectively use and manage current meat land and property to use methane gas and other waste products for other purposes. In order to also use land better, more time and effort needs to be put into agriscience. We need food so we don't die, and, in order to allow people who's livelihood revolves around livestock, we need to focus on research and development so agriculture can survive, thrive, and be a viable option.

The REAL inconvenient truth is overpopulation. Aside from the solutions in the video, we should also consider :
- Opening up VOLUNTARY sterilization clinics (sterilization that does NOT effect sex drive)
- Opening up VOLUNTARY suicide parlors for the suffering or those who don't wish to live anymore
- Putting all serial killers, rapists, and child molesters "to sleep"
- Create a license to reproduce that can only be obtained after the age of 21, and sterilize those who do not comply
- Create a 3 child policy for those who are "eligible" to reproduce and sterilize the rest who are not
- Forced sterilization for ALL Felons.
- Forced sterilization for ALL those who have a history of mental illness
- Forced sterilization for ALL homeless people
- Forced sterilization for ALL parents living under section-8 housing.
- Forced sterilization for PARENTS on welfare because if you could barely
take care of yourself AND are struggling with a kid, you shouldn't be
having any more. -
Asked and answered 30+ years ago - no one listened, no one cares, what's on my Facebook. Welcome to planetary suicide. Have a nice Die-Off.

stop agricultural subsidies and let the market speak
animal agriculture is ineffective and expensive
people need to see that on their bill because they can't see it in their taxes -
screw the earth. Ribs fo dayz

So what are his ideas/solutions for the worlds growing food demand?

we're all DOOMED
