While a few rare individuals have taken Plato’s words seriously, most scoff at the idea that an advanced civilization could vanish as completely as if it had never existed. I'm curious if anyone can explain why the coast around Greece and Turkey looks so different from the coasts in the rest of the world (zoomed out to continental level). Did a large area of land somehow sink, or is that debris from one of those volcanoes he was talking about?

Platos physical description of Atlantis matches up perfectly to Ireland why dont people mention the only known location that matches up to what he said. Instead they guess also recently the Irish sea was created because rising water and separated her from Britain could that be what he heard after being there he goes and comes back and see the remaining land bridges disappeared assuming the place sunk

What about the overwhelming evidence for a catastrophic series of floods that occurred between 12,800 and 11,600 years ago during the Younger Dryas event, which was attributed to the impact on the North American ice sheets by fragments of a comet? Aww, you missed my personal favorite: Atlantis was actually a continent inside the "hollow Earth" and the entrance was merely located west of the Straits of Gibraltar. Thus the land mass being of such enormous size without evidence on the "surface world." Then the theory is split as to whether Atlantis itself sank, or just the entrance.

No, I don't actually believe this, but the theory is fun to contemplate.
Personally, I think there was a place that was advanced, was destroyed and submerged, with survivors scattering. Where such a place was, I don't know, but it stands to reason that some details - such as size - were embellished through the years, possibly to increase the impact of the lesson on the mythological side.

Atlantis does and did not exist. The name Atlantis and the story is to hard to talk of in terms of the name Atlantis. So I'd scrap the whole name. Starting with the Bible and a global flood, there was a pre-flood society that we don't know the name of, and a post-flood society, and we at least know the ruler's name of that. Much simpler to think about.

Minoan theory is by far the most plausible. The Minoans were ridiculously advanced for the Bronze Age and were wiped out by massive tidal waves caused by a volcanic eruption that was bigger than Krakatoa. Also, they were right next to Greece and Egypt, the two sources of the Atlantis myth.
