vue - "We're All Perverts": The Prehistoric Origins of Modern Sexuality with Author Christopher Ryan
"If you look at us as a species, we're not very impressive," says author Christopher Ryan. "What we're good at is forming complex social networks." Christopher Ryan sits down with Reason contributor Thaddeus Russell to discuss his book, Sex at Dawn: The Prehistoric Origins of Modern Sexuality. Together with Cacilda Jethá, Ryan has written about the history of human sexuality and why we should fight against "socially imposed restrictions." By looking at archaeology, primate biology, human physiology, and anthropological studies of pre-agricultural tribes from around the world, Ryan says we aren't meant to be in life-long monogamous unions. Watch the video above as Russel and Ryan discuss desire, jealousy and the harmful consequences of repressing healthy sexuality. About 27 mins. Produced by Sharif Matar. Camera by Zach Weissmueller and Matar. Subscribe to Reason TV's YouTube channel and get automatic notifications when new videos go live.

Why is it just a given that we need to have property rights.... Maybe this is further evidence that supports anarchism.
-
people still believe in the theory of evolution?
-
apparently the jewish/christian view seems to be the best way it works.
that is why we are the most successful. -
I'd like to hear his opinion on asexuality and the impact of asexuality on reproduction.

Ryan's central argument is sensible being that from an evolutionary perspective, we have within us, baked coding to have lots of polygamous sex and that its ok the know that we have lots and lots of sex on our minds, many with whom that are not your partner. Great. Check.
But the similarities perhaps stop there. Modern man evolved monogamy for a clear reason. Those stated below plus STD's. Im sure if we did a study it would have shown that rampant sex left a huge wide door open for mass infection, particularly when an infected new outsider joined the group.
That would have posed a huge risk to the social group. -
Hmm how about jealousy? Males A, B, C... are all having sex with females X,Y, Z at some point i would argue jealousy perhaps comes into the picture and leads to aggression and social disorder.
I would further extrapolate that modern monogamous marriage is the result of polygamy's eventual trajectory and the need for social order.
This thought is supported by the fact thy modern day man has sex in private. Why? Because we do not want to share, and it keeps a secret whom you're sleeping with. This duality of separation of sex and the social group together with Sapiens propensity for to sneak, cheat and lie, lends itself for the illusion of "availability" (minus a tiny ring on a finger, that not all married folks wear). -
It's not just social it's economic.Think about it 2 paychecks are better than one in case you say one has wealth and of the 2 doesn't have to work 2 people can accomplish more than one. It's all about what you can do for me what another nigga, niggette can't

Testosterone Collaspe results in a culture of perversion, decline in marriage, and abolition of private property rights! -
I like Christopher Ryan's ideas on authencity but most of us don't live in these small cultural bubbles (e.g., southwest China) where there are different mores, so they don't play out very well in the world we inhabit. He does remind me of Margaret Mead and her early cultural studies, but on the other hand I found him a little detached and pompous. Each to his/her own.

I'm not being fooled by this one

it may be the reason for developing marriage for men, but I think that shifted, today woman profit more from marriage and they more often pressure the man into marriage.
That and the state that advertises marriage much, by giving more rights and asks for less taxes. -
I just listened to the first few seconds. How stupid can anyone be? This world is fucked, there is no doubt about it. It is probably too late to stop it now. So, yeah, I agree, just have sex with anyone, or anything, might as well. But don't lie, damn it!!! The primary reason for sex is reproductive. If you can't see that, you should be killed for stupidity. Stupid ass!!! Freudian jerk. You have fucked up this world, and it can NOT be stopped now!!! A century of Freudian psychology has fucked us all in the head. We are all hopeless neurotics. I am not against sex for pleasure, but use some reason-- Do not tell me that nature's primary reason for sex is social. That is a damned lie!

wonderful

Polyamory is the way forward.
-
Using the example of the tribes people believing that their children are the result of accumulated semen is not a solid argument if that is actually not true. You can say that some people believe in God, or dragons, or that if you stare at the sun you'll grow wings. But is it actually matching up with reality?

This was recommended to me hundreds of times, it is sh!t.

Blacklist all the people not on the current Blacklist now!

First, we'll have to define what is natural . If it's a matter of comparing human to animal sexual behaviour of then I would put a million fronts as to how different we humans are from animals. This is a debate stemming from Darwin's doctrines : the proximate and ultimate .
Engaging in sex for reasons other than reproduction has uniquely been part of our known history. We are also part of this thing called Nature and we just happen to be of another order. -
hi, interesting discussion. I think it is egoistic for women to marry a multitalented man and insist to have him all for themselves. there are not enough of those men for every woman so yea i think it is fine and fare to share.
