Look at the difference temperature makes. Worms are much more active in the summer. I raise worms in my extra bedroom with food scraps made into slushies and my bins never smell.

do worm castings lose their quality if you store them for say 3 months in bags?

Thanks for your information about worms. I'm just starting out with my own compost / worm bin. My question is about coffee grinds, is there such a thing about adding to much coffee grinds for the worms? I also add the left over coffee from the pot to water the compost / worms. Plus all the vegetables scraps from the week. BTW I live in Louisiana and I'm disabled and trying to start a worm business. Again thank you for the information. Don't worry about being lazy, so am I.

"Meh... there's a corn cob..." :)
Great video and very informative. Thanks! -
Thanks for the great info -- using those dishwasher racks (or steaming trays) is brilliant - I've kept my bin in a large rubbermade container going without extra heat for a few years here in Colorado, but I might try your heating idea, one cold snap I did lose most of the worms. Question - I've always used shredded newspaper as bedding (I use veg scraps to feed them), do you not need any bedding because you're using compost feed, or because of the stack system?
